Mahmudullah doubtful for start of BPL

A+ grade player of this Bangabandhu BPL 2019-20, Mahmudullah Riyad, is likely to miss first few matches for his franchise Chattogram Challengers due to a recently sustained hamstring injury.

Bangladesh have just finished their near month-long tour of India after swallowing consecutive innings defeats in the Test series. Following Bangladesh’s innings and 46-run defeat, a reliable source informed that Mahmudullah could be out of cricket field for around 15 days.

The 33-year-old veteran pulled his hamstring during the 18th over of Bangladesh’s second innings the day/night Test on day two at Eden Gardens. He retired hurt after playing a brisk knock of 41-ball 39 runs which included seven boundaries.

Mahmudullah did not come out to bat on day three which meant Bangladesh losing the match in the first sessio. He, along with three other players are scheduled to arrive Dhaka on Sunday night.

India-Bangladesh second Test has not only been poor for Bangladesh by performances standards but also lead to injuries. Wicket-keeper Liton Das and Nayeem Hasan pulled out of the match after both got hit on head on the first day.

The seventh edition of Bangladesh Premier League T20 will kick off from December 11 with the opening ceremony set for December 8. Mahmudullah’s return to field might be in mid-December which means Chattogram Challengers will miss him for the opening games.

The Challengers have West Indian star Chris Gayle in their squad. Rayad Emrit, Avishka Fernando, Ryan Burl and Imad Wasim are the other overseas players in the team. Rubel Hossain, Imrul Kayes and Nurul Hasan Sohan are among regular national players.
