Mahmudullah starts CPL mission with a win

Mahmudullah and Sangakkara leave the ground after ensuring stunning victory
Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad gets a fine start in his CPL mission as his side Jamaica Tallawahs have thrashed St Lucia Star to pick up a 6 wickets stunning victory in the 23rd match of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL). [বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ জয় দিয়ে সিপিএল যাত্রা শুরু রিয়াদের]

Winning the toss, Kumar Sangakkara, the skipper of Jamaica Tallawahs asked the visitors to bat first at the Sabina Park, Jamaica.

Batting first the visistors, St Lucia stars posted a total of 172 for losing 8 wickets on the board at the end of their allotted 20-over. Skipper Shane Watson scored highest 80 runs after getting new life at the beginning of the match. Missed fielding cost the hosts minimum 20 runs more. Alongside Shan Watson’s blistering knock Andre Flecther and J Charles scored 20 runs each.

Garey Mathurein and Krismar Santokie were the successful bowlers against St Lucia. Both of them picked up two wickets respectively.

In reply, Loosing Lendle Simmons early, Jamaica Tallawahs picked up stunning victory of 6 wickets with 6 balls to spare. Kumar Sangakkara was the hero behind Tallawahs outstanding victory over St Lucia Stars. He played an outstanding knock of 74 runs off just 45 balls to ensure his team’s victory.

Apart from him, McCarthy contributed Jamaica’s victory by adding vital 36 runs under initial pressure of losing top two batsmen. Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah who has  made debut in CPL with this match, scored unbeaten 1 run from 1 ball before Sangakkara hit the winning boundary.

With this victory, Jamaica Tallawahs have claimed the third spot of points table strongly.


St Lucia stars: 172/8 in 20 overs (Watson 80; Mathurin 26/2, Santokie 33/2)
Jamaica Tallawahs: 176/4 in 19 overs (Sangakkara 75*, McCarthy 36; Cornwall 20/1)
Result: Jamaica Tallawahs won the match by 6 wickets.
