Malan, Bairstow keep England in charge

Dawid Malan has scored his maiden Test century as England are in a good position after the end of the first day of the third Ashes Test against Australia at WACA, Perth.

2-0 down England chose to bat first. The start wasn’t good for the visitors. Alastair Cook’s Ashes woes continued on as he was dismissed for 7 by Mitchell Starc. Impressive Mark Stoneman and James Vince added 63 for the third wicket.

Stoneman reached his second half-century in the series. He made 56 off 110 with 10 boundaries. Vince got a start but got out on 25. Skipper Joe Root too missed out after scoring 23-ball 20.

England lost four wickets for 131. The Aussies didn’t have a good time since then. Malan and Jonny Bairstow remained solid till the end. They brought up England’s second century partnership in this series. Malan scored his maiden Test century in 159 balls.

England accelerated on after the second new ball was taken and finished the day at 305/4 in 89 overs. Malan remains unbeaten on 110 runs from 174 deliveries including 15 fours and a six. Bairstow is on 149-ball 75* hitting 10 fours. The fifth-wicket partnership is on 174*.

Starc have picked up two wickets so far. Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins have taken one each.
