Malinga ‘being persuaded’ to play Bangladesh ODIs

Sri Lankan pace bowler Lasith Malinga is being persuaded to play all three ODIs’ (and not only one that bowler wants) against visiting Bangladesh team.
“Malinga wants to retire from the ODIs’ after playing only the first match on 26th July, but I am confident to convince him to play all three”, Ashantha de Mel, the chief selector, speaking exclusively over telephone from Colombo, said.
“We want Malinga to play the entire series before he thinks of retirement (from ODIs’ and therefore that task will be handled by me”.
“We want to win the series against Bangladesh and improve the ICC ratings”.
In the meantime, according to the sources in the ministry, the sports minister Harin Fernando invited the chief selector to plan out the future strategy for Sri Lanka.
“Both had a chat one-to-one for about 15-20 minutes. This was the first interaction between the two after team’s return from the World Cup”, the source confirmed on condition of anonymity.
Interestingly, Malinga has no plan to play the Global T-20 in Canada (July 25 to August 11).
“Last year he did play in this tournament but this year he has sought a break”, Ashit Patel, one of the organizers said.
“We have few players listed for the tournament and NOCs’ will be sought”, he added.
