“Malinga gave a good example for the rest of the guys” – Karunaratne
Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne has praised veteran pacer Lasith Malinga for his superb performances against England and mentioned him as a “Legend” of the game.
Malinga took four wickets against the hosts to grab a shocking win for the Lankans on Friday, June 21 at Headingly, Leeds. The evergreen pacer finished with the figure of 4/43 in his 10 overs including the all-important wickets of Jonny Bairstow, James Vince, Joe Root and Jos Buttler.
“I believe he’s a legend,” the captain told the media. “He know what he needs to do, I think. Whatever he does he is putting forth a valiant effort, so that is the reason I stated, if he wants to go home and return, that is fine. So I think he did that and he come back again and he gave a good example for the rest of the guys,” he said when asking about Malinga’s departure to Attend Mother-in-law’s Funeral before the match.
Not only Malinga but also the former captain Angelo Mathews played a timely knock of 85-run off 115 balls to help the team posting a good total of 232 runs. Karunaratne also praised the batsman alongside Malinga after the match.
“So I think he [Malinga] did a great job and even Angelo, both of them completed a great job. Those are the things, you know, each time you take a stab at turning the games, changing the games. Those are the performances of changing the games,” the Lankan skipper said.
Majestic Malinga and magnificent Mathews glittered in their own special way to shock the title aspirant England by 20 runs in low scoring match on Friday and kept the semi-final hope alive with 6 points from 6 matches.
