Saif Hassan-led Bangladesh side will be leaving for New Zealand on December 25. In the current squad, only Saif and Pinak Ghosh had played U-19 World Cup in 2016. While Afif Hossain and Kazi Anik have also grabbed attentions in BPL and also in U-19 circuit.
Bangladesh, which was led by Mehidy Hasan Niraz, were semi-finalists of 2016 World Cup at home. New Zealand will be completely different conditions for them. So Tigers one-day skipper Mashrafe has told them to play freely and enjoy the game.
“I have told them to stay mentally strong because the weather and conditions will be against our favour. It’s normal. This happens to us when our national team tours there.
“I told them to play cricket with joy of mind. I understand that the more the U-19 boys play free cricket and enjoy, it’s better for them. It’s best not to give them the pressure of playing the semi-finals or winning the World Cup. I told them to play free cricket,” said Mashrafe.
Bangladesh are in Group C of 2018 U-19 World Cup. They will be facing Namibia, Canada and England. Namibia will be their first opponent on the first day of the tournament. The 16-team event will kick off on January 13.
