‘Mashrafe took the wrong decision’ says Mohmmad Ashraful

Bangladesh have lost a great opportunity to win the ODI series against Sri Lanka in their own soil; losing the match by 70 runs extorted criticism from in and outside the country. Like many others, former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful also reprimanded Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s decision of bowling first after winning the toss. Mohammad Ashraful said, “It was very sunny and hot out there. It is quite difficult to bat after fifty overs of fielding in that condition. Bangladesh should have batted first to store a good total on the board. But they did it wrong to bowl first. The batsmen were tired after fifty overs of bowling and there was an added pressure of a big total made by Sri Lanka.”

“We came with a draw ODI series back in 2013 and this time as well. But I think we should have won in this occasion. Sri Lanka was mentally lacking after being hugely defeated in the first one day. But we could not utilize the opportunity in the last ODI, I had seen a lack of game planning in that match” – Mohammad Ashraful said.

The hard hitter batsman also slammed the bowling effort in the particular match, “The bowling in that match was not up to the standard. Sri Lanka scored 70 runs in first 10 overs which brought advantages for them later one.”
