Bangladesh have a golden opportunity before them to rise into the sixth position of ICC ODI Team Rankings if they can bear New Zealand in the last match of the ongoing tri-nation series in Ireland. However, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is not thinking about rankings. All he wants is to win the match to gain some much needed momentu going into the mega event. “Every match is very important. If we can win our last match before Champions Trophy, we will feel really good. Most important thing is to start the Champions Trophy off with confidence. Though we have two matches against India and Pakistan, winning against New Zealand in an official match will equally encourage the boys to play well,” said Mashrafe on Tuesday.

Some key players have just joined the New Zealand camp after their IPL campaign. So naturally the Kiwis squad for the next match is going to be stronger than before. “We have nothing new to think about. Some of their players have come after IPL, but we all have been there from the very beginning. We just need to execute our plans perfectly in the field.”

Asked if there will be any change in the next match’s playing XI, Mashrafe took the diplomatic path to avoid any controversy, “We will do anything we need to win the match. We have 18 players in our squad for the tri-series. Of the 18, 11 will play in the match. Those who we believe are needed to win the match will play in the match.”

Mashrafe wants the bowlers to come back to consistent form, as he said: “We have been seeing the lacking of consistency in our bowlers ever since the Sri Lanka tour. It’s natural, because things like these depend a lot on the wicket. In most of the matches, we have tried and bowled well. But I think if our bowlers can first bring up a good start, then the batsmen’s job becomes easier.”
