Match abandoned in Abu Dhabi T10 due to lack of DLS printouts

Abandon of a match due to rain- It is quite normal in a cricket match. But the reason behind the abandon of a ran-effected match in Abu Dhabi T10 league yesterday was much incredible. The match was eventually abandoned as the organizers did not have a printout of the Duckworth-Lewis (DL) method.

Team Abu Dhabi and Deccan Gladiators face off at Sheikh Abu Zayed Stadium on Wednesday, November 20. After losing the toss, Abu Dhabi scored 118 runs for 4 wickets in the stipulated 10 overs.

In reply, Gladiators were 25 for 1 in 2.2 overs, chasing 119 when rain stopped play in Abu Dhabi. The match resumed after some time off. This time 1.2 overs were played. After that the rain came again. However, it did not last long. But then the length of the match is reduced.

According to the rules, in this case the target should be in DL method. However, the tournament authorities could not produce that score. Because they did not have a printout of the procedure by which the target could be set easily.

As a result, the umpires stood idly by for a while after the rain stopped. Players were also shocked. They couldn’t understand why the game wasn’t resuming. Because there was no printout of the DL, there was no announcement came from the match referee. However, at one point he declared the match abandoned.

After the match was canceled in an ICC-recognized tournament, there was a surge of criticism in the cricket world. Many have raised the question – why did the organizers not prepare in advance for the DL method? According to the law, after the rain, why they could not give sheet printout to the both teams? And so on.
