Mathews’ captaincy life again began with that Zimbabwe and it began with a defeat. Mathews scored 42 runs in that match and also got injured. He is now likely to miss the match against Bangladesh on Friday.

Sri Lanka’s batting coach Thilan Samaraweera said in the press conference: “Mathews is now in observation for 24 hours. Then we will be sure if he can play tomorrow or not. But we are not aware of the exact place he got injured. It might be hamstring or cramping.”

The third match of the tri-nation series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will start on 12pm at the Mirpur Shere-e-Bangla National stadium.
