Melbourne stars announce David Hussey as new chief coach
Stephen Fleming will no longer be chief coach at Melbourne Stars as David Hussey has been promoted to the head coach role at the Big Bash League franchise. David Hussey will be looking forward to playing new innings this time as the coach and has penned a two-year deal.
The former skipper and assistant coach will step down from the Cricket Victoria Board position, which he has held since 2018.
“I am really honoured and incredibly excited by the opportunity to lead the Stars. Stephen has done some remarkable things with this team over the period and I’ll be looking to capitalise on this while bringing in some strategy and style of my own,” said Hussey.
“The BBL05 Final loss still burns inside me, so I can only imagine how the current players must feel with last season’s loss.”
David Hussey to resurrect Stars’ momentum
The Stars were trounced by cross-city rivals Melbourne Renegades in the last edition’s February final. To put an end to the nightmare, Hussey has some tactical plans to bring fresh energy into the dressing room when the new campaign starts later this year.
“From my perspective, to make the final from last position in BBL07 was a Herculean effort which provides a tremendous platform and enthusiasm for season ahead,” he said.
“I know we have the talent but more importantly we all have the unwavering desire to win the club’s first title.”
