Minhajul expected the best English side

Bangladesh national cricket team’s chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu had expected that England team will send a strong team to Bangladesh for 3 ODIs and 2 Tests in the tour. But England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) are sending the team without a number of main players.

ECB has published ODI and Test squads for Bangladesh tour. Joe Root is rested for ODIs. ODI skipper Eoin Morgan and opener Alex Hales pulled themselves out of the tour due to their concerns about security. Jos Buttler will lead the ODI side. Test captain Alastair Cook will play the two-match Test series.

However, England team director Andrew Strauss told that the players will not be forced to tour.

Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu has said that he never expected England to send any team other than their best. He said to The Daily Star, “England have a very rich cricketing history and I never expected them to send any team other than their best. There was never any chance for them to take this series lightly.”

Bangladesh conditions are good for the spinners. England have named four spinners in the Tests including 38-year old right-arm off-break bowler Gareth Batty. Batty made his Test debut against Bangladesh and have played seven Tests in his career.

“Whenever England come to the sub-continent they send an extra spinner. And personally I don’t think it’s a surprise that Gareth Batty is back. Experienced spinners can be recalled at any point of time in this game,” Nannu said.

“Going by the makeup of the England side I can’t point towards one specific challenge that we may face. The challenges will be different in the two formats and we have to be ready for everything,” he added.

According to Nannu, Bangladesh squad will be named after the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha returns. The squad might be announced on Monday.

He told, “We will announce the squad once the head coach [Chandika Hathurusingha] returns to Bangladesh. He will join the training camp on September 18.”

England team will play 3 ODIs and 2 Tests in their tour. Before that, Afghanistan will play 3 ODIs against Bangladesh.
