This was revealed by his lawyer Salim Rahaman.

Speaking exclusively over telephone on Monday evening, he said, “we appealed against the earlier order. Though the said order was to be effective as a warrant only after his non-appearance within 15 days after his return, we felt the said order is also against the law and therefore appeal was filed before the District judge, Alipore”.

“After hearing our concern, the judge felt merit in the case and we obtained a stay order”.

Earlier in the day, Shami’s wife alerted the media about her husband’s lawyer approaching the court.

On Tuesday, Shami’s lawyers Salim Rahaman and Debranjan Mandal will meet the media persons in Kolkata with a copy of the stay order.
