The players' draft of the ninth season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is over. The franchises have finalized their own teams. Everyone tried to pull the star cricketers into the team.
Before the draft, the franchises were able to sign one local cricketer in a direct contract. Accordingly, 7 local cricketers got the team before the draft. Besides, the teams brought many star foreign cricketers to the team before the draft. Even from yesterday's draft, many local and foreign star cricketers had been taken into the teams.
In all, 216 local cricketers were named in the draft. A total of 82 cricketers have got the team. Many local cricketers did not get a team this time. A picture that is seen every time. Not everyone gets a team in all tournaments. But this time no one showed interest in taking many star cricketers in the team.
Experienced cricketers like Mominul Haque, Mohammad Ashraful are in the list of those who did not get a team. Apart from this, the leg spinners have been neglected as always. Aminul Islam Biplob, Rishad Hossain, Jubair Hossain Likhon did not get the team. Among them, Rishad was also on the standby list of the last T20 World Cup. But even then no one showed interest in taking him into the team.
Ashraful is the country's first star cricketer. However, he was banned for a long time for a fixing scandal. This once hugely popular batter returned to the game after overcoming the ban. Although he played regularly in domestic cricket of the country, he did not get a team in this year's BPL.
Bangladesh's former Test captain Mominul also did not get the team from the draft. Although he’s better known as a Test batsman, he does not play T20 cricket badly either. Mominul was often seen playing in the BPL as well. However, none of the franchises of this year's BPL showed interest in pulling him into the team.
There has always been a reluctance among franchises to include leg spinners. This picture is quite regular in domestic tournaments of the country. This year's BPL was no exception. Three leg spinners Aminul Islam, Rishad, and Jubair Hossain, who are close to the national team, have not been picked by any team. Leg spinners are constantly being neglected in national teams, domestic cricket, BPL, and DPL everywhere. Who knows if anyone else in Bangladesh will ever want to be a leg-spinner after seeing such a situation!
Apart from this, among the famous stars who did not make the team are Sohag Gazi, Sohrawordi Shuvo, Enamul Haque Jr., Shamsur Rahman and Junaid Siddique.
