Moody appointed as Sri Lanka’s Director of Cricket
Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody is appointed as the Director of Cricket for Sri Lanka according to the recommendations by the advisory committee.
The recent performances of Sri Lanka in the Test series against South Africa and England suggested that there needs to be some healing done. After the poor performances, there are some important decisions taken to get back Sri Lankan Cricket to its old form.
As a part of that, a Technical Advisory Committee is formed to mentor Sri Lanka Cricket. The committee is comprised of four former cricketers of the country, chaired by Aravinda de Silva. The other three members are Roshan Mahanama, Muttiah Muralitharan, and Kumar Sangakkara.
The committee has suggested a new appointment to the Sri Lankan team. The committee led by Aravinda de Silva opted to appoint former Australian cricketer Tom Moody as the Director of Cricket. As per the suggestions from the committee, former Australian cricketer Tom Moody is appointed as Sri Lanka’s Director of Cricket.
The former cricketer is contracted for three years which will come active from March 1st, 2021. Moody has to fulfill 300 days of ‘Mandatory Assignment’ within the contracted period of time. His appointment is made on a consultancy basis.
The duties handed over to the new Director of Cricket include the Analysis of the Future Tour Program, focusing on the Domestic Tournament Structure, Player Welfare, Education and Skill Development, Coaching and Support Staff Structure, and High Performance and Data Analytics.
‘’Tom has worked with Sri Lanka Cricket in the past and has shown results, and I am sure with his working knowledge of the system, Tom will add greater value to our game,’’ said Mr. Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket.
