Morgan creates history surpassing Dhoni’s long-standing record
Eoin Morgan has broken former India captain MS Dhoni’s record against his own homeland. The record for most sixes as a captain in international cricket has been made by the England ODI captain, who is one place ahead of the World Cup-winning Indian captain. And where Dhoni set the record in 332 matches, Morgan has done so in 163 matches.
Dhoni has 211 sixes as captain in 332 matches. It was a record for so many days. Morgan broke that record yesterday. However, Morgan has a total of 328 sixes in international cricket.
Dhoni has 359 sixes in international cricket. But as captain, he stands behind the England captain of Irish descent in the number of sixes.
After Morgan and Dhoni, there are two names in the number of sixes as captain – Ricky Ponting and Brendon McCullum. The fight between former Australia captain Ponting and former New Zealand captain McCullum was once much interesting. Ponting’s sixes (as captain) is 171 and whereas McCullum’s 170.
Morgan played a stormy innings of 106 off 84 balls in the last match of the series against Ireland yesterday. He scored a century in the match with 78 balls. Although England did not win the match in the end. Ireland opener Paul Stirling’s 142 and captain Andrew Balbirnie’s 113 helped Ireland to achieve a great victory as they chased the highest run (329) by any foreign team on English soil. The series, held in Southampton, had been part of the World Cup Super League.
