Morkel owns a record that nobody wants
Morne Morkel, the South African pace bowler, has become the owner of such a bowling record that nobody wants. Now he has most Test wickets overturned by no-balls. [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ ‘নো’ বলে ১৩ উইকেট!]
Morkel achieved the most unwanted record when he bowled Ben Stokes at Lord’s where South Africa lost by 211 runs.
The Protea quick bowler took total 13 wickets which were overturned by the umpires as he overstepped. No bowler has ever lost as many Test wickets to no-balls.
When he was asked about this world record before the second Test at Nottingham, Morkel said, “World record, thank you. Somebody needs to hold it. It’s 13 wickets I’d like to have in the bank but it’s not to be.
He also added, “It’s not the first no-ball I’ve bowled in my life. And it’s definitely not going to end my career.”
“It’s not acceptable — it’s a controllable sort of thing,” Morkel said. “I can’t make excuses. I need a lot of rhythms, and timing for me is crucial, and I felt the more I bowled in that Test the better my timing was.
“Unfortunately, I did bowl that no-ball, and that’s the sort of thing you don’t want, to give quality players extra lives … you’re going to get punished. The only thing I can do is keep on working on getting that foot behind the line. I think it’s just a rush of blood to the head, wanting to create something with the older ball.”
South Africa are currently 1-0 behind in the four-match Test series, and now they must win or at least draw at Trent Bridge if they are to become the eventual series winners.
