Those eight players will not be part of practice matches on 6th and 9th January ahead of tri-nation series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
Mosaddek Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Mominul Haque, Subashis Roy, Shadman Islam, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Taijul Islam and Mahedi Hasan are the players who have been released from the squad.
Of them, all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain has a chance of making into Bangladesh’s main squad. He last played international cricket in Champions Trophy 2017. His eye was infected before the start of Australia series that pulled him out of Australia Tests and also South Africa tour.
Although he played for Dhaka Dynamites throughout the Bangladesh Premier League 2017 tournament and the last round of National Cricket League for Barisal Division, chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu has said that the team management wants the rookie to play a longer innings in BCL.
“He is definitely in contention for the ODI squad selection. But we want him to play a longer innings, so we are sending him to the BCL,” said Nannu.
Mominul and Taijul will be Bangladesh’s auto-choices for Tests against Sri Lanka. Shafiul and Rabbi might also be considered.
BCB Red and Green teams will take on each other in the first match on Saturday, led by Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza. The second match will be on Tuesday. Both matches will be played in Mirpur.
