Mpofu replaces injured Ngarava for Test series
Christopher Mpofu has replaced Richard Ngarava who picked up an injury in the last ODI for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
The left arm-pacer Ngarava ustained a groin injury during the last ODI. Zimbabwe national team physiotherapist Anesu Mupotaringa said he will not be able to recover in time.
“Ngarava sustained a groin injury and also complained of pain in the gluteal region after our last ODI. Even with aggressive treatment, he will not recover in time for the Test series.”
The 20-year old youngster was all set to make his Test debut. But the injury has ruled him out unfortunately and he has to wait a bit more.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe selector Walter Chawaguta also insisted that Ngarava is included in their plans for the future.
“Ngarava is part of our plan to deliberately inject youth into the team and he has worked hard on this tour, on the sidelines, readying himself for an opportunity to play. We had plans to possibly rotate our seamers and rest those who have played all matches since the tour of South Africa and this would have presented an opportunity for Ngarava.”
The test series will begin on 3rd November at Sylhet International Stadium. After the first Test, both teams will fly back to Dhaka to play the second Test match on 11th November.
