MS Dhoni becomes first player to play 200 IPL matches

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) MS Dhoni becomes the first-ever cricketer to play 200 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He achieved the feat against Rajasthan Royals.

MS Dhoni has achieved huge milestones throughout his career and probably just before the end of his career, he has achieved another milestone as he became the first cricketer in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) to play 200 matches.

Dhoni, who just retired from International cricket achieved the feat against Rajasthan Royals on Monday, However, it was a disappointing night for Dhoni and his men as Rajasthan Royals won the game comfortably by 7 wickets after CSK managed to score only 125 runs.

Despite achieving this huge milestone, Dhoni had no idea of it before the toss as commentator Danny Morrison enlighted him.

“You spoke about it and that’s how I got to know. It feels good but at the same time it’s just a number. I feel fortunate to play for such a long time without many injuries.”

Dhoni has been leading Chennai since the inception of IPL in 2008. However, when the franchise was suspended for two years, he led Rising Pune Supergiant.

Suresh Raina, who played 194 IPL matches could have achieved the feat earlier than Dhoni. But he pulled off the tournament in the end due to personal reasons.

With 215 maximums, Dhoni also ranks third in the list of big-hitters in the tournament after Chris Gayle (333 sixes) and AB de Villiers (231 sixes).
