MS Dhoni reveals why CSK lost to Delhi Capitals
CSK began their IPL campaign to a perfect start after beating Mumbai Indians in the opening fixture of the ongoing season. After their victory in the first game, the yellow army looked a bit shaky in their approach in all aspects of the game and lost two games in a row. CSK lost to Rajasthan Royals in the second game.
Then again, MS Dhoni-led team lost to Delhi Capitals in the third fixture. With two defeats and one win, CSK are placed third in the points table. However, there could be major shuffling in the table in the games to come. Delhi Capitals posted 175/3 in their quota of twenty overs with the help of Prithvi Shaw’s top knock of 64 off 43 with nine fours and a six.
In reply, CSK lacked the teeth to get the better of Delhi Capitals. DC bowlers didn’t let CSK batsmen dictate tempo in the game and as a result, CSK kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Even the run rate started to climb after CSK batsmen slowed things down due to immense pressure by DC bowlers.
CSK ended up scoring 131/7 in 20 overs. Faf du Plessis top-scored for CSK with 43. CSK lost the match by 44 runs. Shaw was the man of the match for his terrible batting performance. At the post-match presentation ceremony, CSK captain MS Dhoni revealed what went wrong in the team that lost back-to-back games.
We lacked a bit of steam in the batting: MS Dhoni
Ambati Rayudu’s absence hurt CSK badly. Rayudu was the top performer for CSK in the IPL opener against Mumbai Indians. He was named the man of the match as well. Unfortunately, the right-handed batsman picked up an injury in the training session.
His injury sidelined him from participating in the next two games, which CSK lost both of them. However, Rayudu is expected to be back for CSK in the next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad according to MS Dhoni.
“I don’t think it was a good game for us. There was no dew, but the wicket did slow down. We are lacking a bit of steam in the batting and that hurts. The run rate keeps on mounting after such slow starts and adds pressure, we need to figure that out. We need to come back with a clearer picture, looking at the combination. Maybe, the team balance will get better once Rayudu comes back in the next game. That will give us the room to experiment with an extra bowler perhaps.
There are quite a few things we can think about. We are one batter extra to start off, so the players need to step up. We need to get better with our lengths, lines and pace. I think the spinners have not come to the party yet. We are bowling good deliveries, but we are giving away the boundary deliveries bit too often. I’ll ask the players as there have been quite a few dropped catches. The players are not used to play under such lights, maybe the trajectory comes in the way. Now that you have said it, this can be an excuse for those dropped catches,” MS Dhoni signed off.
