MS Dhoni to skip West Indies tour: BCCI official

Former India skipper MS Dhoni on Saturday has opted out of Indian team’s tour of West Indies with intense speculations surrounding his future. It was only recently that MS Dhoni’s long-time friend Arun Pandey confirmed that Dhoni has no immediate plans to retire from international cricket.

Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, on Sunday, will be attending selection committee meeting with five selectors to finalise India’s squad for West Indies tour. Prior to that, MS Dhoni has made himself “unavailable” for West Indies tour.

MS Dhoni, who is an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Territorial Army will be spending quality time for the next two months with his regiment.

A top Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official confirmed this development. “Dhoni has made himself unavailable for the tour of West Indies as he will be spending two months with his paramilitary regiment,” senior official. added in a statement.

The 38-year-old MS Dhoni has informed his decision to the BCCI even before the selection committee meeting on Sunday.

So with MS Dhoni pulling out of the Caribbean tour, Rishabh Pant is in line to be the first-choice wicketkeeper in all three formats while Wriddhiman Saha will be Rishabh Pant’s backup in the Test series.
