Mumbai Indians have added Alzarri Joseph in replace of injured Milne

Mumbai Indians have added West Indies young quality pacer Alzarri Joseph into their squad in replace of injured New Zealand’s speedster Adam Milne in the twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Milne, who was picked by Mumbai at the auction this year for Rs 75 lakhs, was governed out of the IPL for the whole season without playing any match because of heel damage.

Alzarri Joseph

The 22-year old, Joseph came to attention during the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2016 because of his ability to take wickets at the right time. He also burst onto the scene for his extreme pace. He took 13 wickets from just six matches in the tournament including three wickets in the final against India to help his team winning the under-19 World Cup that year. Coincidentally, he took the important wicket of the Indian opener and captain Ishan Kishan in the final with whom he will be sharing his dressing room for Mumbai Indians.

Joseph has played just seven T20s so far and got nine wickets. His best T20 figures of 4 for 41 came against St Lucia Zouks during the CPL 2016. Joseph has also featured in the national team. He played 9 Tests for West Indies and took 25 wickets. He also played 16 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and took 24 wickets.

Surely, Joseph’s addition in the team will boost up the pace department for Mumbai Indians as they are going through much problem in this department. Lasith Malinga was supposed to miss few matches initially and Jasprit Bumrah injured his left shoulder in the 37-runs defeat against Delhi Capitals in the first match. While Australia pacer Jason Behrendorff hasn’t come to India yet because of the ongoing series against Pakistan at UAE.

The three time IPL champion, Mumbai Indians will play their second match against Royal Challengers Bangalore today at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
