Mumbai rated Mustafizur highly, even when he’s out of main XI
After outstanding performance with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians signed Bangladesh star pacer Mustafizur Rahman in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018. In that year, former Bangladesh opener Nafees Iqbal worked with Mumbai as Mustafizur’s interpreter.
Nafees told story of how Mustafizur was considered in the team in a recent show Bdcrictime live adda. He said that every member of the team, starting from the Mumbai owner, paid special attention to Mustafizur. Even when Mustafizur dropped from the main XI, the team still valued him. While the participation of Bangladesh cricketers in IPL is low, Mustafizur’s assessment in Mumbai was unprecedented.
“They used to consider Mustafizur very highly. Everyone of the team including team owner valued him much, respected him a lot, I am a witness myself. Unfortunately, after doing well in the first few matches, he could not do so well,”
While Mustafizur was dropped and sitting on the bench, the team were still thinking about him. Because he was included in the team as a special tool of the bowling unit. “Once he had to stay out of main XI due to team combination. But everyone in the team considered him very well.”
Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal’s elder brother Nafees Iqbal thought that IPL is completely a different entity, which is hard to touch by any other franchise leagues.
“The IPL has its own standards. I’m not neglecting BPL [Bangladesh Premier League]. BPL is trying to reach the standard of IPL. India is a very big country, IPL gets good support from their media and the whole country. Cricket is a big thing in India. It would be wrong now to compare our cricket structure with their structure. We are getting better and better,” he said.
