Mushfiqur Rahim has made it a habit to get out while playing reverse sweep repeatedly. Many of his innings are being ended unexpectedly for this reason. However, Test captain Mominul Haque is unhappy with the questions raised over Mushfiqur's tendency to play risky shots in any situation.
In the Port Elizabeth Test, Mushfiqur got out playing reverse sweep after his half-century which caused Bangladesh the follow-on, in the end, a helpless defeat.
Although the Proteas did not fall Bangladesh into a follow-on trap. At the press conference at the end of the day, team director Khaled Mahmud Sujon also expressed dissatisfaction with Mushfiqur's shot.
However, at the end of the match, the captain Mominul Haque kept the senior cricketer of the team in check.
“ODIs, Tests, T20s; Whatever the game, you may be talking too much about it. You can tell. Reverse sweep is a shot of cricket. Isn't it? No shots outside of cricket. He can play this shot. If it is in his game plan, he will play it. Not that he didn’t get run while playing this shot or was very unsuccessful. He gets runs through it. I think he should get support. I support him in this,”
Mominul said.
Mominul, embarrassed to hear the question about Mushfiqur's reverse sweep more than once, requested that Mushfiqur's reverse sweep should not be questioned. He added, “He is successful in playing this shot. You see, I see. I request you - if you accept the request, it is good for the Bangladesh team. Seriously. If you talk too much about it, it will be bad for him, bad for the team, bad for the country. He plays the shot, he succeeds by playing this shot.”
