In the contest of survival, Bangladesh batting lost the track once again following their earlier matches, until Mahmudullah Riyad and Imrul Kayes guarded the team against further downfall and helped to reach into a moderately competitive total.

Bangladesh, losing 5 wickets within twenty overs of the match and 87 on the board, were pitiful against lively Afghan attack in the do or die match of the Super Four of Asia Cup 2018.

Both Imrul Kayes and Mahmudullah Riyad passed 70 runs, where Imrul was unbeaten at 72.

On his way to the 89 ball innings, the bulky opener touched the milestone of 2000 limited over runs for Bangladesh. Thus he becomes the 8th Bangladeshi batsman to do so. It is also the fastest 2000 ODI runs for the country in terms of innings.

Earlier wicket keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim added 33 runs in 52 deliveries with the help of 2 fours and a single six and became the third Bangladeshi batsman to score 5000 runs in one day international cricket.

It is, however, also the fastest 5,000 ODI runs for Bangladesh in terms of innings.
