Mushfiqur on his way to becoming best T20 wicketkeeper of all-time!

Mushfiqur Rahim is mainly known all around the globe for his scrumptious batting. Backed by his brilliance with the willow, some call him ‘Mr. Dependable’; while to others, he is simply the ‘Run Machine’, who can score runs after runs at his own will. But whatever he is called by, it’s a fact that he is unarguably the best batsman of Bangladesh at the moment, and technically one of the bests of the entire world.

But not to forget that he is an outstanding wicketkeeper as well. Since the retirement of Khaled Mashud Pilot, he is serving to stand behind the stumps for the Tigers in all three formats of the game. And in the process, he has established himself as one of the best wicketkeepers of all-time in T20 cricket.

Mushfiqur, the Bangladesh Test skipper, is statistically the fourth best T20 wicketkeeper. Playing 39 international matches in the shortest format of the game till date, the number of his dismissals reads 36. Apart from capturing 21 catches, he has also made 15 stumpings.

Mushfiqur is even better than Indian captain MS Dhoni and New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum as well. While McCullum has 35 dismissals to his name, Dhoni has 36 – the exact same number as compared to Mushfiqur’s. But as Mushfiqur has played lesser matches, he is ahead of the Indian Captain Cool.

There are only three wicketkeepers in the world currently who are better than Mushfiqur in the shortest format of the game. They are Kamran Akmal, Dinesh Ramdin and Kumar Sangakkara. Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal tops the list with 60 dismissals from 56 matches. West Indian Ramdin has 47 from 51 matches.

On the other hand, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara has 45 dismissals from 56 matches. But with the Lankan having retired already from international cricket and the Bangladeshi Little Dynamo being at the peak of his career, it’s just a matter of time for him to topple Sangakkara. And who knows, Mushfiqur one day can even surpass Akmal and Ramdin as well to become the best T20 wicketkeeper of all-time!
