During India’s previous visit to Australia, the visitors stunned the hosts by clinching the Test series by 2-1. In the process, India scripted history by winning the first-ever Test series in Australia after 71 years.

Though it was a memorable series win for India under Virat Kohli’s tutelage, critics said that India beat Australia without Steve Smith and David Warner. Both the stalwarts were serving a 1-year ban from cricket due to 2018 Australian ball-tampering saga in Cape Town.

India came through with flying colours in the fourth and final Test match at The Gabba to retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy. In what was a historic run-chase at the fortress, India chased down 328 and won the game by 3 wickets.

The Gabba fortress was breached after India’s match-winner Rishabh Pant hit the winning runs for the side. Pant scored a stellar 89* while Shubman Gill scored 91. Cheteshwar Pujara scored a brilliant fifty where he displayed great fight and determination.

After India clinched a spectacular series win, former and current cricketers of different nations took to their respective Twitter handles to hail Ajinkya Rahane and Co. Test cricket was played at the highest level and quality. Team India secured second Test series victory in Australian soil.

Bangladesh’s experienced wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim chipped in with special tweet after Team India scripted history to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy. “Congratulations India…what a test match we have witnessed..!!!! Test cricket at his best -MR15,” Rahim wrote on Twitter.

Pant was named the player of the match for his candid knock. “This is one of my biggest days of life. The support the team has given me even when I was not playing has been incredible. It’s a dream come true. We’ve been practising hard after the first Test.

The team management always backs me and tells me you are match-winner and you have to go out there and win and I am happy I did it today. It was a fifth-day pitch and the ball was turning,” Pant said at the post-match presentation.
