Mushfiqur Rahim ready to lead Bangladesh again


Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has been serving Bangladesh as captain for long time. But according to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon, the Zimbabwe series could be Mashrafe’s last series as captain.

On February 19, BCB President said, “I think Mashrafe must be in Zimbabwe series. If he doesn’t fit, that’s another thing. We’re not going to tighten up for him. But soon we will have to decide which team and captain will play in the World Cup in two years ahead.

“I don’t have much time on my hands. This decision has to be made very soon. I will make a clear decision on the captaincy within the next one month. We have been waiting till this series. Then we will make our decision.”

“Mashrafe is playing as captain in this series. He’s still the captain of Bangladesh ODI team. Our board meeting will be within 1-1.5 months. There you will know the decision, it is not too late.”

Shakib Al Hasan is currently under consideration because of the ban. Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad are also not considered for various reasons. Leadership among young people, many of whom are not yet a regular face in the team.

Mushfiqur Rahim may be the most suitable option. Earlier, ‘Mr. Dependable’ indicated that he did not want to take over as captain.

In an exclusive interview with popular television NTV, Mushfiqur Rahim has said that if BCB wants to see him as captain, he will consider, “It is a matter of honor, it is a matter of pride to lead the country. Many people do not get it. If  BCB wants me as a captain then I can think about it.”
