After being defeating in the last one-day series against Zimbabwe, Mushfiq has announced his retirement. However, when he returned to the country, he changed his decision.

Then it was decided to keep him as the skipper until 31 December. However, Mushfiq said that larger scale should be considered and a short term decision would not be very effective.

When asked about the decision to make him the captain until 2015 World Cup, Mushfiq said, “I cannot propose it. For the good of Bangladesh cricket, I wanted a captain for a long period.”

Mushfiq’s leadership against New Zealand was successful for the Bangladesh cricket team. After a respectable draw in the Test series, they won the ODI series 3-0.

Mushfiq will now lead the team against Sri Lanka in the upcoming series. Bangladesh will play two Tests, three ODIs and two T20 matches against Sri Lanka; who will arrive in Bangladesh on 24 January 2014.

The wicketkeeper-batsman will also lead the team for ICC Twenty-20 World Cup in March-April 2014.
