Liton made his Test debut in June 2015 against India in Fatullah. He scored 97 runs including a fifty in his three Test innings. He was out of the team due to injury problems. Nurul Hasan Sohan was called as his replacement. He made his Test debut in Christchurch against New Zealand.

Selector Minhajul Abedin has said that Liton has been recalled because of his batting potentials. Recently, the right-hander scored his maiden first-class double century (219) against Central Zone for East Zone in Bangladesh Cricket League.

“We have picked him (Liton) ahead of Sohan because he was a part of our Test team before the England series. He was struggling for runs after recovering from injury. He scored a double hundred in BCL. That’s why we have picked him again,” said Nannu.

He informed that Liton is recalled for his batting capabilities.

“We have thought that the Test is in subcontinent conditions, we decided to bring Liton back in place of Sohan. Sohan has not gone out of the pool. As he is going through the systems, so he is excluded. But definitely, he is a good wicket-keeper. We wanted to think about the batting. The batsmen have to fight hard in India, so Liton gets the call,” explains BCB chief selector.

Mustafizur Rahman is not picked for the India Test. Nannu said that the Fizz needs to work more on his skill fitness.

He said, “Although he (Mustafizur) doesn’t have any problem medically, he still needs to work on his skill fitness as he has to bowl a lot in Test cricket.”

The only Test between Bangladesh and India will begin on 9 February.
