‘Nasser Hossain is the best captain I every played against’, says Sachin Tendulkar
India’s living legend Sachin Tendulkar has had the time of his career to go through many captains of India team and opposition as well. In a recent talk, when Sachin was asked to name the best opposition captain he played against, the master blaster pronounced a clear answer to name former English captain Nasser Hossain as the greatest of them.
“Among the captains I played against, I consider Nasser Hossain the best. He was an excellent strategist and even if some of his tactics occasionally bordered on the negative – using the left – arm spinner Ashley Giles to bowl to me outside my leg stump from over the wicket, for example he was a very good thinker about the game and was proactive” – Sachin Tendulkar explained in his autobiography ‘Playing it my way.’
“Nasser would not place a fielder in a particular position after a shot was played. Rather, he had the ability to anticipate the shot and would place a fielder well in advance, making a real difference to his team” – wrote Sachin.
Nasser Hossain played 96 Test matches and 88 one day international matches for England during the period of 1989 to 2004. He scored 5764 runs in Test and 2332 runs in ODI. The Indian borne English captain has 15 international hundreds in his bag.
