Nasser spoke to Sky Sports and picked out his best all-rounder in the 50-over format. He went for Bangladesh’s Shakib ahead of England’s impact player Ben Stokes.
But the English commentator believes Stokes and India’s expressive all-rounder Hardik Pandya have the potential to be the best in future.
“I think I am going to go for Shakib Al Hasan, actually. The potential of Ben Stokes is huge in white-ball cricket. I think Ben Stokes will be challenging in the next year or so to be the best all-rounder in white-ball cricket, without a doubt,” Nasser said.
“The same goes for Hardik Pandya. If you look at the knock he played the other day against Australia, India were 87-5 and to recover from that position with MS Dhoni – who is another up there for the best all-rounder – was exceptional.
“I know Shakib has gone and asked for a rest from Test cricket for six months, but in those conditions in Bangladesh, on the subcontinent, he is a proper all-rounder and he has done it for a long time,” he added.
Shakib opted for a six-month break from Test cricket which meant he is going to miss South Africa Tests but he will be available for the ODIs and T20Is. Currently, he is ranked number one in all formats.
