Nasser wants Babar in IPL
Pakistani players have not played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2008. Apart from the ICC tournament, India-Pakistan are not seen on cricket field because of the political animosity between the two countries.
So, how is it possible for Pakistani cricketers to participate in the IPL! Former England captain Nasser Hussain’s pity is here, a cricketer like Babar Azam is not playing in the IPL.
Only time will tell whether Babar will match India’s Virat Kohli in terms of records and others. But the great rhythm that Babar is in, he is already being put in a bracket with ‘Fab Four’ which includes Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson and Steve Smith.
Players like Babar are not seen in the IPL. Babar is at the top of the T20 rankings at the moment, with an average of over 50 in the International T20. Last year, he scored 578 runs at an average of 52.5 in England’s T20 Blast, with a strike rate of around 150. He’s very consistent, most shots are played grammatically.
Hussain regrets not seeing a cricketer of this caliber on such a big stage as in the IPL, saying,
“It’s the Pakistani players not being in the IPL. The IPL will start soon and Babar Azam won’t be there. He’s a phenomenal player and he should be there.”
To illustrate the point, Nasser Hussain cited three English Premier League derby as an example: “I don’t want to get into the politics of it but India and Pakistan not playing each other are like the Premier League with Manchester City not playing Manchester United, or Everton-Liverpool or Spurs and Arsenal.”
