NCL 2019: Sylhet lost to Barisal by an innings and 32 runs

Sylhet Division defeated Barisal Division in the fourth round of the National Cricket League’s Tier Two at Cox’s Bazar. Sylhet lost the Barisal in an innings. Sylhet won the match by an innings and 32 runs.


Sylhet took on Barisal at Sheikh Kamal International Stadium in Cox’s Bazar. Earlier, Barisal fell to just 162 runs after batting first. In reply, Sylhet got all out for 322 runs. In the second innings, Barisal was all out for 128 runs and Sylhet picked up the win by an innings and 32 runs.

In the first innings of Barisal, Nuruzzaman scored team’s highest 40 runs. Sohag Gazi scored 23 runs, Salman Hossain scored 25 runs and Mohammad Ashraful scored 20 runs in the opening. Sylhet pacer Ebadot Hossain took five wickets, Nasum Ahmed took three wickets, Abu Jayed Rahi and Enamul Jr took one wicket each.

Sylhet’s highest 73 runs came from opener Shanaz Ahmed. Another opener Imtiaz Hossain scored 48 runs, Zakir Hassan scored 53 runs, Captain Alok Kapali scored 29 runs, Jaker Ali scored 35 runs. Barisal’s Monir Hossain got three wickets.

In the second innings, Barisal’s highest 37 runs came from Sohag Gazi’s bat. Shahriar Nafees scored 32 runs. Ashraful scored just 2 runs in the opening. Nasum Ahmed of Sylhet took four wickets, Ebadot Hossain three, Abu Jayed one and Shahanur Rahman took two wickets. Ebadot Hossain was adjusted man of the match as he took 8 wickets in two innings.

Despite the loss, Barisal is still at the top of the Tier Two table. Winning one of four matches, a loss and two draws, the team has a collection of 24.47 points. Sylhet stand at second place with 22.54 points. Third-placed Dhaka Metro have 17.80 points, while last placed Chittagong’s collection is 17.42 points.
