Nepali captain ‘speechless’ after going to WC 2019 qualifiers
Nepal captain Paras Khadka was left speechless after his team defeated Canada on Wednesday to reach into the qualifying tournament of World Cup 2019.
“I can’t speak, the last wicket made 50 odd runs, cricket is just a winner today,” Khadka said.
“I feel for Canada, one in a million times you would win those games. Things have just worked out for us, we have been working so hard for all these years and eventually it has happened for us, I am speechless.”
17 year old Sandeep Lamichhane, who stole the limelight several weeks ago to become the first Nepalese cricketer to get an Indian Premier League contract, starred the show with all round effort.
Lamichhane and Karan KC fought to bring the victory for Nepal in the last wicket unbroken 51 run partnership; the heart pumping match ended with Karan hit the winning run in the final delivery of the match to successfully chase down 195 runs.
Earlier Lamichhane claimed 2 wickets for 40 runs to restrict Canada at the score of 194 runs in the World Cricket League Division Two group stage match in Namibia.
Khadka later said, “The fans back home are one of our biggest inspirations and we always thank them. We want to do well, and help Nepal cricket grow.”
Nepal will take on Papua New Guinea, Ireland, the Netherlands and two-time World Cup winners West Indies in Group A of qualifying,
