New Zealand-Australia Auckland fixture shifted
Level 3 lockdown in Auckland has forced New Zealand Cricket to shift matches of Australia men’s and England women’s to Wellington.
All the remaining matches of the two series will be played behind closed doors.
Eden Park was previously scheduled to host men’s New Zealand vs Australia 3rd T20I and women’s New Zealand vs England 1st T20I on March 3. The teams have relocated to Wellington following announcement of seven-day COVID-19 lockdown in Auckland.
Wellington’s Westpac Stadium will host the fourth NZ v Aus T20I (March 5) as well before moving to Mount Maunganui for the fifth and final on March 7.
“NZC has confidence in, and continues to operate within the New Zealand government’s alert level protocols,” a New Zealand Cricket spokesperson said on Saturday night.
“This means at level one it’s pretty much business as usual; at level two games are played behind closed doors, and at level three, games are abandoned.”
New Zealand men’s are leading the five-match series 2-0 following a close win in the second T20I in Dunedin.
Bangladesh have already arrived in Christchurch, and are currently on two-week isolation. Although the Bangladeshis are allowed half-an-hour of walk outside with social distancing.
Bangladesh will play three ODIs, starting from March 20, which will be followed by as many T20Is till April 1.
Australia women are also scheduled to tour New Zealand at the same time.
