New Zealand complete whitewash in a nail biter
The fifth and the final ODI between New Zealand and Pakistan has come to an end and the Kiwis have completed the whitewash in a thrilling match which went down to the wire. Chasing 272 runs, Pakistan felt short of 15 runs and failed to avoid whitewash.
New Zealand elected to bat first in the last ODI and the openers Colin Munro and Martin Guptill were off to a flying start. Though Munro’s innings stopped at 34, Guptill continued the damage and scored his 13th ODI hundred.
Guptill’s hundred and Grandhomme’s unbeaten short cameo helped New Zealand to post a healthy target of 272 runs. For Pakistan, it was Ruman Raees who could pick up 3 wickets but he was also expensive like others.
In reply, none of the top order batsman couldn’t contribute for Pakistan and it was Haris Sohail who tried to save the sinking ship with his 63 from 87 balls. After his departure, Shadab Khan continued the fight and he also scored a half century.
But neither of the knock was enough for Pakistan to avoid the whitewash as they were out all for 256 runs in the end. Spinner Santer picked up 3 wickets while Henry picked up 4 wickets for New Zealand.
With that, New Zealand won the 5 match ODI series 5-nil and completed the whitewash successfully.
