New Zealand Cricket has unique capping ceremony

Unlike the other national cricket teams, which provide a Test cap to only the debut player/s before the commencement of the international match, New Zealand cricket team has a unique policy of providing a Test cap to each member of the team on the eve of the match.

And accordingly, the practice was followed in a team meeting in the team hotel room on Wednesday late evening.

“The capping ceremony is indeed something quite special to the team and therefore quite private”, a member of the support staff, who didn’t wish to be named, said exclusively.

“The caps are presented to the players in a capping ceremony ahead of each Test, usually the night before”.

These same caps are recollected after the Test match is over.

“We’ve has a wide variety of cap presenters from former New Zealand cricket players to our prime minister and other influential people and sports people from New Zealand but also outside of NZ”, he further added.

On Wednesday, the presenter was team coach Gary Stead.

The source also sent a photograph from his collection, when in 2017, Suzie Bates (White Ferns captain) presented the caps to the players.
