New Zealand displace England, climb to top spot in ICC ODI rankings
New Zealand’s one-day series whitewash against Bangladesh recently has given them the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings.
The updates eliminate results from 2017-18 and halve the weighting of matches played in 2019-20 which includes the 2019 World Cup. In the system, results from the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons are weighted at 50 per cent, with matches since May 2020 given their full weighting.
The Kane Williamson-led side was placed at the third spot with 118 ratings in its account. They added 3 more ratings to displace the former No. 1 holder World Champions England.
Australia also have also gained two position to climb at No. 2 position with 118 ratings while India slip down to third place in the rankings. India and England are both on 115, the former ahead on decimal points. The West Indies have overtaken Sri Lanka to ninth position.
England’s demotion in the rankings id due to their ODI series losses against India and Australia in the last 12 months. They also lost an ODI against Ireland at the same period of time.
However, England have remained at the top in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings. New Zealand have also gained the position in the T20I rankings too, from fifth to third, beating West Indies, Pakistan, Australia and Bangladesh recently.
And the update of the ICC Men’s Test Rankings will be released after the ongoing series between Pakistan and Zimbabwe.
