New Zealand retire Vettori and McCullum’s jersey numbers
New Zealand have retired their former left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori’s jersey as they unveiled all the jersey numbers for the World Test championship.
New Zealand are all set to start their World Test campaign with the Test series in Sri Lanka that starts on August 14. They have unveiled their jersey numbers for the tournament where they announce that they have retired Daniel Vettori’s jersey number 11.
After England and Australia, Blackcaps became the third team m to announce the numbers that their Test cricketers will wear. The men in black announce through Twitter that they have retired Vettori’s jersey number.
According to New Zealand cricket, they have retired the players’ numbers who have represented New Zealand in more than 200 ODIs and Vettori has played 291 ODIs for Blackcaps. He is also the most capped ODI player.
Apart from Vettori, former New Zealand captains Stephen Fleming, Brendon McCullum’s jersey numbers are also retired along with Chris Harris, Nathan Astle and Chris Cairns will be retired. Among active New Zealand players, only Ross Taylor (228) has played more than 200 ODIs.
