No Kohli, Rohit and Dhoni in Sehwag’s IPL 2019 XI
Former Indian attacking opening batsman, Virender Sehwag has been following the lucrative Indian Premier League this season and has even chipped in with brilliant tweets about the game as well. The Nawab of Najafgarh is well known for the knack of presenting even a simple tweet in a hilarious manner.
However, he doesn’t rule out expressing his opinions. With the IPL comes to the final day of the peak clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, he picked his best XI this season. The biggest shock is that he Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma or even AB de Villiers in his list.
His list maybe shocking to everyone but according to him, he picked his XI based on players’ performance in the 12th edition of the IPL.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag, without second thoughts picked Delhi Capitals’ Shikhar Dhawan and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Jonny Bairstow as his openers in the best XI of IPL 2019 with Kings XI Punjab’s KL Rahul at No. 3. He then chose the Orange Cap holder, David Warner of SRH to come at No. 4 position.
David Warner is the captain of Sehwag’s XI
Justifying his selection of David Warner as the captain of his best XI, Sehwag said, “I have seen his performance as an opener, and I have seen his performance as a middle-order batsman. He can play the same at both the slots, can score runs and deliver consistently. I have also made him the captain as he is a smart cricketer which we had seen in SRH’s run to title win 2016.”
“Everyone must be thinking why I didn’t pick Kohli or AB de Villiers, but I have picked players based on their performance,” he told.
Sehwag’s middle order has three crisp hitters namely Rishabh Pant, Andre Russell and Hardik Pandya and then went on to pick Pant as his ‘favourite cricketer’ this year.
Coming to the bowlers’ spot, Kagiso Rabada and Jasprit Bumrah were named along with the young duo of Rahul Chahar and Shreyas Gopal.
