Having played out all four of their group stage matches, Bangladesh now have six points to their name by winning three matches, alongside a healthy net run-rate of 0.458. They are sitting at the second spot in the points table, just behind India whom they will face in the final on March 6.
After batting first, Shahid Afridi elected to bat first. Though Bangladesh bowlers dominated in the early part of the innings, a 70-run stand between Shoaib Malik and Sarfraz Ahmed ensured the Green Shirts cruised to a challenging score of 129 for seven. Al-Amin finished with three for 25, while Arafat Sunny took two for 35. Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Taskin Ahmed bagged one wicket apiece.
Chasing a target of 130 runs set by Pakistan, Bangladesh endured some early damage, of those of Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman. However Soumya Sarkar propped up in the crunch time, scoring 48 of as many balls to make sure Bangladesh didn’t lose their way. And then in end, Mahmudullah Riyad and Mashrafe were responsible for making the Tigers successful of surviving some late storm from Pakistan bowlers.
With Mahmudullah and Mashrafe unbeaten on 22 and 12 respectively, and the winning boundary coming of Mahmudullah’s bat, Bangladesh sailed to victory with five balls and as many wickets still in hand to get through to the dream final of Micromax Asia Cup T20 2016.
