Only Balaji and I could have cleared Yo-Yo test in our time: Kaif
Yo-Yo test is a substantial parameter to determine a player’s fitness and based on the result, the coach decides which player deserves to be in the squad. If a player fails the test, one has to reappear for the test at the NCA in Bengaluru until he attains an elegible score. The fitness test hogged the limelight when Anil Kumble was the head coach of the Indian cricket team. But now, the test has become mandatory.
Earlier, the game was played without bringing yo-yo test into effect. Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif spoke about the much-talked-about yo-yo test that had caused massive controversy when it was introduced by the BCCI.
One of the best fielders of Team India during his playing days, Kaif said that fitness is indeed important for cricketers. If the Yo-Yo test was conducted during their time, only himself, Balaji could have cleared it, according to Kaif.
Kaif also labelled Yuvraj Singh as ‘good’ in terms of fitness but he isn’t really sure of other cricketers whether they would pass it.
“Fitness is very important for cricketers. If we did the Yo-Yo test during our time, Balaji and I could have fulfilled that criteria, even Yuvraj Singh was good. But, I do not think that others would have passed the test,” Kaif added.
Meanwhile, Kaif also spoke about BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and wants him to continue the posting for another term if positive changes should be brought in the country. Kaif is well aware that Sourav Ganguly brought a lot of sensible and positive changes in Indian cricket which lifted the team’s morale and they moved to the top of Test rankings.
Kaif went live on Helo app and said,”Dada is a straightforward man, He took lots of good decisions in a very short time. He will bring transparency and positive changes to the system. So he needs another term for BCCI.”
