Pakistan a wicket away from concluding Africa tour
The second Test between Zimbabwe and Pakistan at Harare Sports Club goes into the fourth day with the visitors needing just one wicket to clean things up.
Following on after a mere first innings total of 132, Zimbabwe have ended day three on 220/9 in 63 overs. They lost seven wickets in the last session, slipping from 142/2.
Left-arm spinner Nauman Ali has taken a second Test five-for (5/86) although being taken for runs in his 21-over spell. Shaheen Shah Afridi, who has four scalps so far, was fiery with his yorkers which uprooted the stumps of Tendai Chisoro and Richard Ngarava on consecutive balls before stumps were called.
One-down batter Regis Chakbva struck 80 runs from 137 balls with 13 fours and 2 sixes, also piling 79-run stand with Brendan Taylor, who hit a quick 31-ball 49 with 10 boundaries. Debutant Luke Jongwe remains on 31* having Blessing Muzarabani at the other end.
Zimbabwe’s first innings lasted only 30.4 overs longer on day three, starting with 52/4. Pakistan imposed the follow-on after a big 378-run lead.
Hassan Ali claimed career-best five wickets for 27, his fifth Test five-wicket haul and also his fourth in five innings. He is yet to strike in the second innings.
With Zimbabwe 158 behind, it is a matter of time for Pakistan to seal 2-0 win and conclude the tour of Africa.
