Pakistan reaches Kolkata, receives warm welcome
A 15-man Pakistan squad led by Shahid Khan Afridi arrived in Kolkata on Saturday evening and received a warm welcome in their arch rivals’ land. Earlier Pakistan team was scheduled to arrive on March 9 but the concerned cricket authority put hurdles sighting security reasons and at one stage even threatened to boycott the mega-event.
Hundreds of fans were waiting outside the airport to greet cricket heroes from Pakistan and they cheered and chanted ‘Boom Boom Afridi’ as the members of Pakistan team reached to the hotel amidst tight security cordons.
Pakistan will start their World Cup campaign on 16th of March at the prestigious Eden Gardens against the winner of the match between Bangladesh and Oman today. Before that they will play a warm – up match against Sri Lanka on 14th of March.
The electrifying clash between India and Pakistan will take place on March 19 after the match shifted from Dharamsala to Kolkata. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) demanded full assurance of security from the Federal Government of India and arrived to participate in ICC World Twetny20 2016 after receiving formal security assurance from Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and the West Bengal Police force.
