Pakistan vs New Zealand ODIs: Imam ul Haq returns from the injury
Imam ul Haq is back in the Pakistani one-day setup for the upcoming New Zealand series which is going to be played in the former’s rental home the United Arab Emirates.
This will be a huge mental boost for the Pakistani side who usually struggle with the opening pair in limited overs cricket. Recently concluded T20 International series was won by Pakistan which was their record eleventh straight T20I series win.
Imam ul Haq injured his left hand’s finger when he was hit by the Australians in the first test match. He straightaway missed the second test followed by the T20I series against the same opposition. He even missed the T20I series against New Zealand as well. The southpaw made his comeback in Pakistan’s domestic league Quaid-e-Azam Trophy One-Day tournament in Lahore to declare himself fit.
There are only two names added to the one-day squad roaster in the form of Imam ul Haq and all-rounder Mohammed Hafeez. The remaining players are the same. Hafeez is going to make a comeback in the ODI side so he will be challenging Imam for the opening slot as well.
Junaid Khan, the left arm pacer has also been included in the side. He is such a good bowler but in recent years, he has always been a second fiddle to Mohammed Amir. The three-match one day series between these two sides will be played on 7th, 9th and 11th of November.
But tables have turned, Mohammed Amir has been once again dropped from the limited-overs side and needs to continue playing in the Pakistani domestic tournaments to prove his worth. Pakistani pace attack includes three left-arm pacers which are nothing of a surprise, to be honest.
This will be a very important series for Pakistan as they are a poor side in the one day format in the recent past. They are currently ranked seventh in the ICC ODI rankings.
