Pakistan will win T20 WC only under Sarfaraz Ahmed’s captaincy
Pakistan will win the T20 World Cup this year only if Sarfaraz Ahmed is in the team and also captaining it. This claim came from a high profile Pakistan senator Faisal Javed Khan.
Sarfaraz has been out of the national team for quite some time now, and it seems like he is gradually going out of the selectors’ radar.
He was sacked as Pakistan’s T20I and Test captain in October last year, and a drop from the national side also followed. Since then he has been overlooked for the tour of Australia, Tests against Sri Lanka that marked the return of Test cricket on Pakistani soil after 10 years, and also in the ongoing three-match T20 series against Bangladesh.
Sarfaraz may not be in plan for Pakistan team’s future, but Faisal, a Member of the Senate of Pakistan since March 2018, thinks otherwise. According to him, Sarfaraz should be recalled, just like veteran all-rounders Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez were for the Twenty20 series against Bangladesh.
Malik was not only called back, but he also made a glorious comeback when he played an unbeaten knock of 58 off 45 balls to guide Pakistan to a crucial five-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the T20I series opener. This performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
Hafeez was not any less either. He did not win the Man of the Match, but he was his side’s top-scorer in the second T20I. He smashed an unbeaten 67 off just 49 balls including nine boundaries and a six. His 131-run unbeaten stand with Babar Azam (66* off 44 balls) made sure Pakistan pick up a comprehensive 9-wicket victory in the second T20I.
“See, the return of Malik and Hafeez has brought back winning combination in the team. I think only Sarfaraz is left now and if he captains us in the T20 World Cup, we can win the mega event,” Faisal told Ary Sports.
