Parthiv Patel reveals the better T20 captain between Kohli and Rohit
After the conclusion of the thirteenth edition of the IPL, there is one debate that still keeps going on in the cricket fraternity. Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli? Who is the best captain to lead India? Is there any need for split captaincy? These sort of questions kept surfacing on social media every now and then.
With the ICC T20 World Cup tournament less than a year away from the start, netizens are expecting a different version of Team India. It has been a long time since India won a massive trophy. India beat England to win ICC Champions Trophy 2013. This was the last time India showed its competitiveness in marquee events.
Since then it has been an array of disappointments. Virat Kohli is yet to win a tournament for India while Rohit Sharma helped India win Asia Cup and Nidahas Trophy in Kohli’s absence. Moreover, Rohit Sharma helped Mumbai Indians win fifth IPL trophy. On the other hand, Virat Kohli is yet to win a trophy with Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Gautam Gambhir had earlier stated that Rohit Sharma is a better captain than Virat Kohli. In fact, there is a huge difference in terms of captaincy between the two players according to the cricketer-turned-politician. Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra defended Virat Kohli’s captaincy by questioning if Rohit can win trophies if he was RCB captain.
The debate continued further when Gambhir himself told Kohli is not a bad captain but clarified that Rohit is a better captain in the first place. Earlier, the former Indian opener said that if India don’t appoint Rohit as captain, then it is team’s loss and not Rohit’s.
Rohit is slightly a better captain than Kohli: Parthiv Patel
While everyone are coming up with different opinions, India wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel revealed who is the right man to lead India in the truncated version of the game. According to Parthiv, Rohit is a calm man and knows how to win big tournaments. Parthiv also further added saying that Rohit is a better captain and has more experience of handling the team in pressure situations.
Parthiv had played under both Rohit and Virat in Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore stated: “I have played under both of them and that too for three years each. It is not that I have played under one captain for just a solitary year and for many years under the other.
The way Rohit Sharma does captaincy, I like it more, he is calmer on the ground, takes better decisions under pressure and according to me he is a better captain when it comes to building the team,” Patel said while speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.
“I have seen Rohit Sharma taking decisions on his own in crunch situations while Virat depends a lot on other players when it comes to crunch situations.”
“When it comes to the pressure games, Rohit Sharma has more experience of handling the team, the way he takes on the spot decisions that go in the team’s favour.”
The veteran wicket-keeper batsman highlighted that Virat Kohli didn’t give his best shot at 2017 Champions Trophy and the 2019 World Cup. “We are not saying that Virat Kohli is a bad captain, the thing here is which captain has won more tournaments. To win tournaments you need to know how you are going to win those tournaments.”
“Since Virat has not won at all, when it comes to the crunch situations you are behind a little in terms of decision making which happened with the Indian team in the 50-over World Cup or the Champions Trophy final,” Parthiv Patel concluded.
