Pat Cummins rested for final T20I against Pakistan
Australia’s right-arm pacer Pat Cummins has been rested for the third and final T20I against Pakistan set to be played on Friday.
The home team is leading the three match series 1-0 by defeating Pakistan in a margin of seven wickets in the second T20I in Canberra on Tuesday.
“It’s a little bit of recovery and preparing for the Test match,”Australia coach Justin Langer said.
“We”ve got so much cricket on, he (Cummins) plays a lot of it so when you get a little opportunity rather than taking the long flight to Perth he”s going to stay here, recover and get prepared for the Test series.
“But we need to get better at it, it’s something that is a priority for Australian cricket. So, therefore, you want to play your best players as often as you can,” he added.
In the final T20I, Sean Abbott is likely to get a chance in the place of rested Pat Cummins.
According to Australian media reports, Cummins is likely to feature in New South Wales’ Sheffield Shield game against Western Australia at the SCG which will also include other national team players like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith and David Warner.
Before featuring in the upcoming Test series against Pakistan, the aforementioned Sheffield Shield match will be Australia’s only longer version practice.
Cricket Australia will name the Test squad later next week for the two-match series against Pakistan beginning November 21.
Pat Cummins has played 25 Test matches for Australia so far and has taken 125 wickets at a strike rate of 46.
